Spring is finally here! Along with (hopefully) warmer temperatures, spring is a great time to think about spring cleaning, spring planting, and new life.
What do these topics have to do with Project Lia and sustainability? More than you might think!
Spring Cleaning
If you are cleaning out your closets and basements and wondering to yourself “How did I end up with so much stuff??”, take a moment for a re-thinking of your purchasing practices. How can I buy less and buy from companies whose mission is to think about the product’s sustainability footprint and social impact – from the raw materials, to the production process, to the labor, and packaging and distribution. (Yes, this is part of our mission!)
Spring Planting
There is nothing more satisfying than getting out into the spring sun to work your flower beds and plant your crop of fresh vegetables. Have you thought about adding a tree or two to your yard? A small fruit tree or one of these fast growing trees can not only add to your curbside appeal, but help replenish one of the 68 million trees the US consumes each year in paper products!
We make our products from wood that has been saved from the dumpster (thanks for all your donations!) such as pallets, old furniture, fences, etc. These can make some pretty awesome and earth friendly home decorations and gifts!
New Life
Those first new flower buds and chirping baby birds are a sure sign spring has arrived! We are working hard at breathing new life into the community and the women we employ.
It is not just employment for these formerly incarcerated women, but also educational opportunities in financial literacy, communication, business ethics, and health and wellness, as well as learning to foster positive relationships and community engagement.
All contributing to a fresh start and hope for a brighter future!
